The Nonprofit Risk Management Center was established in 1990 to provide assistance and resources for community-serving nonprofit organizations. As a nonprofit, the Center is uniquely positioned to both understand and respond to questions with practical, affordable suggestions for controlling risks that threaten a nonprofit’s ability to accomplish its mission.

Their mission is to help nonprofits cope with uncertainty. They offer a wide range of services (from technical assistance to software to training and consulting help) on a vast array of risk management topics (from employment practices, to insurance purchasing to internal controls and preventing child abuse). They do not sell insurance or endorse organizations that do.

How can they help?

  • Free technical assistance by telephone or e-mail to nonprofit staff and volunteers.
  • Affordable, easy-to-read publications. (Some are free!)
  • Interactive risk assessment software on the web called Nonprofit CARES (Computer Assisted Risk Evaluation System).
  • They publish a Community Risk Management and Insurance newsletter, which is distributed to thousands of nonprofits three times each year.
  • Design and deliver workshops at events and conferences sponsored by nonprofit organizations, umbrella groups and associations, and insurance providers.
  • Sponsor regional conferences on risk management each Spring and hold an annual conference each Fall.
  • Offer competitively priced consulting services, including risk assessments.
